Caravaggio Experience

Watch and be amazed at how experts restore the world renowned masterpieces of Caravaggio.

The visit starts inside the Sant’Agostino Church in Rome where guests will be able to see the painting “Pilgrim’s Madonna” that was restored by Valeria Merlini and Daniela Storti in 2000. The guests, accompanied by the restorers and the studio coordinator, will be able to learn about the painting and the process of its restoration from them and to ask questions to the restorers themselves about the conservation process.

The experience will conclude at the Merlini Storti Art Restoration and Conservation Studio where guests will have the chance to closely observe the restorers' work and to discover little-known aspects of ancient artists' work. It includes the possibility of seeing several works of art in the process of being restored, observing restorers as they work and seeing from up close the materials used by restorers and by ancient artists, as well as witnessing the use of some devices used for scientific analyses on the artworks. Moreover, guests will be able to see exclusive images of the restoration of the three Caravaggio paintings the studio has restored. At the end of this exclusive experience, we like to offer our guests a small aperitif, that includes a glass of prosecco or wine and a few traditional Italian snacks.

This visit will last about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
